Together, Side by Side
When the Allied nations gathered together to fight against a common fascist enemy they were often thrust together in the same armies.
Overcoming the challenges of language barriers and cultural differences, these men developed ingenious ways to communicate and work together under extremely stressful conditions. This was especially true in Italy where, at times, 26 Allied nations fought together within two different armies on one battlefield.
The Punjabi Regiments were some of the most highly disciplined and formidable soldiers in the field. Donning their traditional turbans they fought side by side with Canadian soldiers on many occasions, and earned the great respect of their comrades in arms.
