Reputed to be a kind and brave man, Eric Reginald "Rex" Binmore enlisted in the Canadian Army when war broke out in 1914.
Originally with the Quebec Regiment he was later transferred to the 87th Battalion. During the Battle of Amiens, on 8 August 1918, Rex and his batman survived a direct assault on his tank.
Witnesses said that one pulled the other out of the burning wreckage. They then shouldered machine guns and advanced up the road toward the firing Germans but their luck ran out when Rex was hit and killed by German gunfire. He is buried in the Caix British Cemetery.
