Corporal Jamie Murphy
Cpl Jamie Brendan Murphy was born in St John’s, Newfoundland on 8 July 1977 to Norman and Alice Murphy. He grew up in Conception Harbour. After finishing high school, Jamie joined the Canadian Forces in March 1997 and, following Infantry training, he was posted to 1st Battalion The Royal Canadian Regiment in October 1997.
Jamie was employed as a rifleman and gained qualifications as a driver, signaller, mortarman and machine gunner. Cpl Jamie Murphy deployed to Kosovo on Operation Kinetic between December 1999 - May 2000. He was a dedicated and professional soldier. Most recently, Jamie was attached to Parachute Company 3rd Battalion Group for Operation Athena in Kabul, Afghanistan.
A practical joker whose smile and winning nature kept him out of trouble, Jamie was only days away from returning to Canada. Jamie is survived by his loving wife, Candace McCauley, his parents Norman and Alice and his sisters Norma Murphy and Rosemary Ryan and brother John Murphy.
