Private Sébastien Courcy enlisted on 3 June, 2006 in St-Hyacinthe, Quebec and after completing recruitment training in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec he was posted to Valcartier, Quebec on 13 October, 2006.
He completed his training at the Infantryman Training Centre Area Land Force in Quebec, and was assigned to 2nd Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment, on 3 May, 2007. It was his first deployment overseas.
He was deployed on 1 April, 2009 with the JTF-A-1-09 Roto 7 / Battle Group of the 2nd R22eR within the Company Command where he held a position with the reconnaissance platoon. He died while conducting operations in the Panjwai district, about 17 kilometers southwest of Kandahar.

Sdt Sébastien Courcy s'est enrôlé le 3 juin 2006 à St-Hyacinthe et, après avoir suivi sa formation de recrue à St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, il est muté à Valcartier le 13 octobre 2006.
Il a suivi sa formation de Fantassin au Centre d'Instruction du Secteur de Québec de la Force Terrestre. Après avoir terminé sa formation, il est affecté au 2e Bataillons du Royal 22e Régiment le 3 mai 2007. Il en était à son premier déploiement outre-mer.
Il a été déployé le 1er avril 2009 avec la FOI-A-1-09 Roto 7 / Groupement Tactique du 2e R22eR, au sein de la Compagnie de Commandement où il occupait une position avec le peloton de reconnaissance. Il est décédé en effectuant des opérations dans le district de Panjwaii. L'incident s'est produit à environ 17 Km au sud-ouest de Kandahar.
