Corporal Brian Pinksen was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland on 05 Apr 1990. He lived in Sops Arm, Newfoundland until 1999 before moving back to Corner Brook with his mother Deborah and brothers Brandon age 17 and Blair age 13. He graduated grade 12 from Corner Brook High School in 2008.
Brian joined the 2 Bn Royal Newfoundland Regiment on 25 Oct 2007 and completed his basic training and graduated as top candidate in both Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) and Soldier Qualification (SQ) and was second on his DP1 infantry Course. Brian had a yearning for the military and excelled as a soldier, quickly demonstrating his ability to learn and comprehend the skills required to be the best he could be.
His friends looked up to him and his brothers looked as him as the father figure. He was adamant of going to Afghanistan and doing what he wanted to do as a soldier and deployed in Apr 2010. He was injured on 22 August while on patrol in Panjuai district. He later died of his wounds in Landstuhl Germany on 29 Aug 2010.
