Stan Milner joined the 2nd Battalion Saskatoon Light Infantry as a bugle boy when he was 15, and later served as a full member of the regiment. He later served with the Canadian Officers Training Corps at the University of Manitoba. In 1990, he was appointed Honourary Lieutenant Colonel of the South Alberta Light Horse, and is also an Honourary member of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment.
Joe Milner joined the RCAF in 1942 at the age of 18 and graduated from the air training school as a Pilot Officer in 1943. He was posted to Trenton, Ontario where he served as a flight instructor until he was sent overseas in September 1944. Once in England he trained on Lancaster bombers which he flew on several missions until the end of the war.
