Major Yannick Pepin

Major Yannick Pépin was raised in Victoriaville, Quebec and was serving in Afghanistan with the 5th Combat Engineer Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment Battle Group.

On 6 September, 2009, while on patrol southwest of Kandahar during Operation Athena Roto7, he was killed when the armoured vehicle he was riding in was hit by a roadside bomb. One other soldier, Corporal Jean-Francois Drouin, was also killed in the blast and five other soldiers were wounded.

Major Yannick Pépin had served with the armed forces for over ten years and was the third major to die while posted to Afghanistan since 2003. He leaves behind his partner, Annie, and his two children, Alexandra and Charles.
